"The Promised Land", 6th in my series, Unexpected California. This luscious state and country are built on the shoulders of people from far off lands and cultures. This original watercolor pays homage to those courageous souls who left the dust bowl states during the Depression seeking a better life for their families in California. My family lore has it that my grandfather plunked his last quarter on the mantle saying "This is all I have to my name". He then loaded his wife, children and sole possessions on the old car and crossed the country via dirt roads. Do any of you remember the Burma Shave signs? Let us not forget from where we all came.
